Hydropower Development in Guyana's Hinterland

In a significant push towards renewable energy, Guyana is advancing the construction of three small hydropower stations in its hinterland regions, aimed at meeting the country's energy needs and reducing carbon emissions. The projects include a 150-kilowatt station at Kato, and two others at Moco-Moco and Kumu with capacities of 0.7 and 1.5 megawatts respectively. Set for completion by the end of 2024, these stations will enable Lethem to operate entirely on renewable energy, thanks to a hybrid system that integrates solar and hydro power with diesel backup. This initiative represents a pivotal step in Guyana's commitment to sustainable development and energy independence.
