Guyana's Food Security and Climate Change

Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha emphasized the threats posed by climate change to Guyana’s food security, particularly for coastal agriculture. In response, the government passed the Sea and River Defense Bill to strengthen infrastructure and incorporate natural defenses like mangroves. With $6.9 billion allocated for sea defenses in 2024, these measures seek to safeguard essential agricultural areas against rising sea levels and climate variability.
