Guyana’s Agricultural Boom: 286% Increase in Peanut Production

Guyana is experiencing a significant agricultural boom, with peanut production soaring by 286% and legume production up by 106% in 2023, according to President Dr. Irfaan Ali. Speaking at the 58th Independence Flag Raising Ceremony, President Ali highlighted the government's strategic investments aimed at making Guyana a major food exporter. These increases, along with gains in other crops, are part of the country’s efforts to achieve food security and build a regional food hub. The government plans to pump $97.6 billion into agriculture in 2024, enhancing the production of traditional and non-traditional crops, agro-processing, livestock, and fisheries.
