Guyana Expands Electricity Infrastructure in Remote Areas

Senior Minister Dr. Ashni Singh announced that the government will provide electricity to New Forest in East Canje, Region Six, by July 2024, benefiting over 30 households. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to extend energy infrastructure to unserved and remote communities. Additionally, the government is advancing its renewable energy agenda through the distribution of solar panel units to 30,000 homes, supported by the Indian Exim Bank. These efforts align with Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy, which includes projects like the 300 MW Gas to Energy Project and the Amaila Falls Hydropower project to meet the growing energy demands and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
