Government Powers Up with Additional Electricity from Powership

The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) has commenced integrating an additional 18MW of power from a powership into the Demerara Berbice Interconnected System, with plans to increase this to 36MW within the week. This interim solution, brokered through a deal with Karpowership International, aims to alleviate the frequent power outages experienced across Guyana. Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo indicated that this setup is part of a broader strategy to stabilize the nation’s power supply until the 300 MW Gas-to-Energy project comes online. This move underscores the government's proactive approach to addressing immediate energy needs while pursuing long-term energy solutions.
